West Indian Manatee by Kayla

My name is Kayla and my report is on the West Indian Manatee.  The physical description of my animal is grey, cute, big, heavy with a paddle-like tail.  The manatee can be 9.8 feet long and weigh between 800 to 1,200 pounds.

My animal lives in the coastal waters, fresh water inlets and river mouths.  The reason my animal is in danger is that the manatee has no known predators other than humans.  In the past humans hunted manatees for their meat, fat and tough hides.  They have also been killed by propellers.  The things that are being done or should be done to save my animal is to not hunt it for it’s meat, fat and tough hide and not poach it.
